OUR SHARED VISION

Climate Change will impact each and every Penn State community member in a different way.

The Penn State Climate Action movement should reflect the diverse perspectives on what a sustainable future actually is. Our Shared Vision was created to be a space for the members of our community to share what they think about climate action, how their work relates to the UN's Sustainable Development goals, and to describe their own personal experiences and unique relationships to environmental issues.

As part of this initiative, student organizations from across the commonwealth are sharing what meaningful climate action means to them, and what they envision in a more sustainable Penn State.

The goal is to supply a transforming and fluid vision that incorporates unique and important perspectives into the sustainable pillars laid out by our petition.

Learn More About EcoAction
EcoAction has been involved in climate action at Penn State since the very beginning of the movement in the 1970s. We’ve staged protests, organized Earth Day celebrations, successfully pushed the University to stop  burning coal on campus, and collaborated with a wide variety of groups to build a community of sustainably minded individuals. We’re quite familiar with the SDGs, they act as guides for our conversations and EcoAction lives in the world of Goal 13, Climate Action.

As a group that is deeply rooted in Penn State’s sustainability community, we see a special opportunity in the vision offered by the Climate Action Plan, one that is realistic, clear, and actionable. The petition’s call for responsible investment is extremely important, and sadly Penn State has fallen behind schools like the University of Michigan, Cornell, and Georgetown that have already taken action to avoid investing in fossil fuel companies.  EcoAction has been pushing Penn State to divest from fossil fuels for years but every effort has been met with an unwillingness to even provide details of the university’s investment portfolio. What has been expressed however, is that with enough support from the student body, Penn State administrators can more comfortably take bold climate action. EcoAction believes strongly that the Climate Action Petition is the one of the best ways for students to show support for the University to take that action.
